Week One

1. Debate: School Uniform

Is it more beneficial for a school to require their students to wear school uniform? This debate reveals the pros and cons of wearing uniforms to school. At first, the United States had few schools that required uniform; however, when schools discovered how uniform leads to more discipline and better educational results, more and more schools decided to change their policy. Personally, I dislike the thought of school uniform. When I think about uniform, I think of girls in plaid skirts and collared shirts. Disliking skirts, I was obviously against school uniform. This debate interested me because upon reading this, I became interested in each side of the argument, especially the for side.

2.This debate was interesting; overall, it was pretty good. One strong point was that people don't truly understand how bloody and violent it is in Iraq right now and there's a consequence that they don't know how long US should stay there or conduct our policies there. One good question brought up by the opposition side was, "What gives you the right to remove my family's ability to mourn my dead?" If you post the deaths of soldiers, it takes away from the grief and adds to anger.
"We can't send our troops if we are not willing to see what is truly going on." I don't think this is a strong point. He is assuming that we are not willing to see what is truly going on. There are other ways to deliver the message.
